Earth, Wind and Fire!

A morning run through the Oregon dunes started the day with a bang.  Shortly thereafter, I rang the wake up bell for Caitlin and she was up and hauling a kayak into the lake.

She was able to get out to sea without hitting the stress level of the day before.  She easily kayaked a half mile to the island and was not sure if her “jello like” arms would get her back to camp or not.

After breaking camp, we went to the Sand Dunes Frontier for an adventure beyond explanation.  But as we loaded into the 8 passenger dune buggy, we knew something crazy was before us.  We buckled in as though we were preparing for a NASCAR race.   Our driver, Scott, had us on the dunes and sailing through the air and squealing like school yard girls.  Among the impressive events were the monsoon strength winds pelting us with sand like a high power sandblaster!

It was unanimously a blast!!

We took a quick break about a mile south on the 101 and explored the dunes as a family.  There were some tired campers after a half hour or so of exploration.

We landed the RV at Gold Beach and enjoyed a nice dinner and set off for the nearby beach to build a driftwood fire.  This was a goal of Kelly’s last year, but evidently horning in on someone else’s fire doesn’t count for having a beach fire.  Clearly the rules require you to ignite the fire yourself.  (Possibly this year’s version of the fire will be disqualified as well.  The cheesy lighter we got for Kelly’s birthday celebration wouldn’t light and passing beachcomber offered her lighter to ignite our inferno.)

All in all, we had a great day in Oregon!
