Ben and Maggie and the Stampede

Two teenagers hosted the breakfast spot at the West Glacier KOA.  Ben is the cook and Maggie is the hostess.  They are a tag team that make the breakfast session worth attending.

Both have been educated via home school and both discovered recently that their dad’s were college attendees and both had dad’s who had careers in photography.  The arrive at the campsite at 6:30 each morning to set up and prepare for hungry campers.

As I visited with them, I learned that both have a great deal of passion for life and a deep and trusting faith.  This morning I discovered the essence of their faith when I gave them each one of our travel gifts and thanked them for their help during our stay.  (They both convinced me to do the whitewater rafting.)

Upon receipt of the gift, Maggie asked “are you a Christian?”  I answered and pointed out the significance of the verse on the gift.  She said, “The life of faith is the only way.”  Ben agreed as did I and our time together ended and our next time together will likely be on the other side of eternity.

After Maggie’s words of encouragement, I returned to the RV to prepare for the day’s travel.  A brief conversation with Paulo, our next door neighbor, brought to light the reality that the time I selected to pass through the Calgary area coincided with the biggest event of the year in town, and not only that it is the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede which attracts people from all over the world.

Paulo assured me the chance of getting campsites along the way was close to zero.  Undaunted by his news and quickly forgetting Maggie’s words, I anxiously began working for a place to park the RV during our tour through Alberta.  It turns out not only did I schedule our visit with the Stampede, but Canada Day.  (A few years earlier I didn’t have a campsite on July 4th and left us floundering for several hours.)

But God provided our campsites and did so beyond our expectations.  Who knows how the unknown of this little situation will unfold, but so far, it has been a great adventure.  Keep the faith!
